Reviving one of Lake’s most iconic performance platforms, the new CX400 evolves from the original design into a more streamlined, race-driven shoe built on Lake’s Race last. It delivers pro-level stiffness and stability through a refined carbon chassis, paired with an anatomically supportive fit that is ready to perform immediately. Designed to simplify setup while preserving Lake’s heritage of innovation, the CX400 provides a stable and efficient foundation for competitive cycling.

Fitting notes - The CX400 shares the same monocoque carbon construction as the CX403, where the upper wraps around an integrated carbon sole and heel counter. Compared to traditional Race Last models, this construction adds fixed internal volume, which may feel slightly roomier than models such as the CX333 in a similar size and width. 

Unlike the CX403, the CX400 incorporates engineered flex through the heel structure, allowing a comfortable out-of-box fit without heat moulding. This creates a slightly less aggressive heel hold while maintaining excellent stability due to the integrated carbon platform.

Riders seeking strong performance support with improved immediate comfort often prefer this construction. If you are between sizes or prefer additional room, consider sizing up 0.5–1 size.

Please note the CX400 can not be heat moulded.

CX/TX Race Last - Featuring a slightly narrower toe box and a tighter heel, with a firmer grip than the Lake Competition last, and less overall volume than our Sport last. Designed for very high-cadence riding, with a slimmer and stylish performance fit.

Outsole - The CX400 features a full carbon fibre sole engineered for stiffness where needed and controlled flex where comfort is critical. This unique construction eliminates the need for heat moulding by naturally adapting to the rider’s foot shape, providing race-level power transfer with long-ride comfort straight out of the box.

Upper - Clarino microfibre construction with strategically placed perforations ensures a lightweight, breathable upper that maintains structural integrity under load. Clarino offers the supple, form-fitting qualities of natural leather while resisting stretch and environmental wear, resulting in a consistent fit over time. The upper is engineered for long-ride comfort, supporting natural biomechanics while delivering the secure hold required for high-intensity efforts.

Closure - The BOA® Fit System with the Li2 Push/Pull dial is seamlessly integrated into Lake’s expertly designed uppers. While no single element ensures perfect fit, Lake’s in-house design, precise development, superior patterns, a world-class shoe last, and top quality upper materials combine with the dual BOA system to deliver unmatched comfort.
